Over the weekend, MelaNation had the pleasure of being featured in the 7th annual DC Zinefest. DC Zinefest is annual independent, volunteer-organized event that offers a space for local zine makers and artists to network with their fellow creators and share their work with the DC community.
During this year’s DC Zinefest there were more than 60 individual zinesters and artists represented with an attendance of more than 900 people. Being featured at DC Zinefest provided an amazing platform to not only debut our newest issue of MelaNation, issue no. 2, “the music edition,” but to also demonstrate how BYP100 utilizes artistry in service of liberation work. We also got to pick up a few incredible zines by artists like Jamila Zahra Felton, Mya Carmichael, Carmen Johns, homie house press, Toni Lane, Mindfull Collaborations, and more. The energy was amazing and it was powerful to see a collective of people who genuinely love their craft build community with one another.
